Balfour Beatty’s next wellbeing programme will target 300 of its most senior employees.
Meanwhile, internal coaches are supporting 260 employees who took part in a pilot Know Your Numbers wellbeing programme run by Ei World in August to November 2011, in Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services, one of the infrastructure services business’ divisions.
The programme was a success, and a second will roll out to between 5,000 and 17,000 employees across Balfour Beatty Support Services, starting with Corporate Services.
Steve Farmer, managing director, Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services, said: “From feedback we have seen so far, Balfour Beatty has gained positive benefits in both attraction and retention – these days people are looking for employers who care about them and their lifestyles.”
For the pilot, Ei World trained five managers to coach programme participants, at a ratio of one to every 52 employees. They offer support with challenges such as relationship problems, communication issues or workplace stress, using HeartMath technology (Roadtest, vol 7, issue 1) along with scripted structured workbook approaches.
The programme for senior employees goes live this year and will include health screening. It forms part of the Younger Next Year programme, designed and implemented by Ei World with Wellness Academy.
Ei World will also help Balfour Beatty develop a team of ‘wellbeing champions’ across its divisions, launching local wellbeing campaigns such as healthy eating and walking.
Geetu Bharwaney, founding director of Ei World, said: “It is clear from our projects with clients that if people are healthy, they are likely to be happier at work. The recent programme we delivered at Balfour Beatty was an example of what is possible. This programme has commitment from the very top of the organisation, a sign of how important wellbeing is to companies now.”
Earlier initiatives include a resilience programme for 450 staff, also delivered by Ei World (vol 5, Issue 4).
