I found the earlier edition of this text invaluable as a reference for my doctoral research study in executive coaching. This new edition is even more powerful with its re-energising of Part One with the latest developments in the most relevant techniques and models for professional practice in coaching and mentoring.

The inclusion of Part Two with offerings from OCM experts in the field is an authoritative addition that reflects current trends and the growth in organisational mentoring and coaching.

This is a highly readable and pragmatic text for practitioners and organisational development specialists promoting professional practice. Examples include: building the business case for coaching and mentoring, and how to implement these approaches in organisations.

In the unregulated industry of coaching and mentoring the availability of a credible body of knowledge is vital. I recommend this text as core reading for gaining knowledge and examples of key skills and to understand the power of what coaching and mentoring can achieve.

The edition is also a tribute to original texts initiated by the late Eric Parsloe, OCM founder and one of the eminent thought leaders and early pioneers responsible for developing our industry.

Seeking a book that gives all the answers to leading big and scary change? If so, this is not for you.

Even better, in The Little Book of Making Big Change Happen, Scotton and Scott ask the right questions – and in a way that’s deeply personal to the leader. They challenge the reader and unlock innate understanding in honest, subtle, simple ways that create clarity of purpose and approach. Through that questioning style, this book is both a coaching manual and personal guide-cum-aide-mémoire.

My company, QinetiQ, is transforming to deliver our vision to be the ‘partner of choice around the world for mission-critical solutions, innovating for customers’ advantage’. While we see positive impact in our transformation, it’s fair to say it’s challenging for all.

This book is both a comfort blanket in respect of our approach to date and a source of inspiration. As a coach, I particularly value the authors’ “Reflect upon your current blessings” approach to Resilience (page 96): so true and yet so rare amid the pressures of big change.

I’m going to share it with my teams: it’s not just for leaders, it’s for everyone involved in big change.
