The Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors and Supervisors has been updated and three additional professional associations have signed up, boosting the global nature and reach of the Code.

The UK’s Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision, the Associazione Italiana Coach Professionisti and the University of New Mexico Mentoring Institute have now signed up too.

“This Global Code of Ethics will now frame and guide the practice of the members of the five signatory bodies, be they located around the world from Australia, through Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe to the Americas. The Code is truly global in its reach and applicability,” reads the website.

The Code is not legally binding but seeks to be a guidance document, and to be available for use as the basis of any complaint or disciplinary hearing and action following the complaints procedures of signatory bodies. Its other purposes are to provide appropriate guidelines, accountability and standards of conduct for members,
guide members’ growth and development in the profession, to guide those who may not identify as professional coaches or mentors but who use either in their work.

The Code was first launched in February 2016. The International Coach Federation has its own code.
