This comprehensive and informative guide details the theory, models, tools and techniques of reflective practice.
The book is well structured and well thought through, and both practical and theoretical. I found it helpful that the author shares some of their personal journey, outlining why sharing in this way is helpful for maintaining a reflective practice. The content is clearly marked, and easy to navigate and engage with.
The book highlights various research studies that argue in favour of reflective practice. For a small book, it is jam-packed with reflective tools and techniques. Each section in each chapter is sub-divided into shorter segments, and is concise and yet very informative. I often go to the book for inspiration and to return to the grounded theory around reflective practice.
I particularly enjoyed the chapter on creative approaches to self-reflection, which includes reflective poetry and story telling. The book balances traditional approaches to reflective practice with examples of therapeutic and creative approaches, which I welcomed.
One challenge is that the title may limit the book’s value primarily to the world of coaching and coach supervision, whereas this book is clearly relevant to professional practice across a number of different professions and fields.
This is a book that I return to time and time again. A rich and concise resource for meaningful reflective practice.
