Cisco, Hilton and DHL Express are among the UK’s top companies focusing on employee training and development, according to workplace culture organisation Great Place To Work® UK.
This is the first year Great Place To Work® UK has compiled its list of the UK’s Best Workplaces for DevelopmentTM, which recognises companies making employee development a key part of company culture.
Some 83% of leaders at the UK’s Best Workplaces for DevelopmentTM said they were investing in leadership and management training, compared to 61% at other organisations.
Organisations listed offer employees the chance to better themselves, to learn new skills and to progress within the organisation.
Other very large organisations (more than 1,000 employees) topping the list include Softcat plc and Baringa. Among the top organisations employing between 201 and 1,000 employees are ServiceNow, NVIDIA, xDesign, Samsara and Unum.
Medium-sized organisations (51-200 employees) on the list include Talos360, Hatmill, SquaredUp, Mercator Digital and AlumierMD, while the top small (10-50 employees) organisations are Sumillion Limited, Iconic Smiles, BlakYaks, Signable and PPC Geeks.
Benedict Gautrey, managing director of Great Place To Work® UK, said, “Employee training and development isn’t just about teaching employees to do their jobs. It’s about showing employees they are valued and that there is a path of progression available. When employees don’t see opportunity, they don’t bring their best selves to work and productivity and retention will be adversely impacted.”
To ascertain the UK’s Best Workplaces for DevelopmentTM, Great Place To Work® UK first analysed more than 230,000 employee responses to uncover the four key areas with the most impact on a positive employee perception of development: empowerment essentials, recognition essentials, management behaviour essentials and development essentials. The UK’s Best Workplaces for DevelopmentTM are those workplaces that excel in each of these areas far beyond the average
UK company.
Analysis of employee survey responses found that 85% of employees at the UK’s Best Workplaces for DevelopmentTM want to stay at their organisation “for a long time”, compared to a UK average of just 61%. Some 90% of employees at the UK’s Best Workplaces for DevelopmentTM say people at their organisation
“give extra to get the job done”, compared to a UK average of 67%.
